I know we all have our socials. We all have facebook, LinkedIn, X and Instagram. But they generally say little about us as humans. They are a record of life, not necessarily of how a life is lived. A continuous advertisement of a persona with the objective of accruing likes and followers. This obsession to offer up a continuous stream of sound-bite-esq personal data and opinions to amass a congregation has demonstrably detracted from the lives being lived authentically.
I have also been a conscript, a victim of this all consuming virtual society, but no more. I will still use these platforms, but not in a search for daily validation. Instead I will use them for when I have something meaningful to share or for moments of joy and pride for myself, my family and my friends.
So why a website then? That's what I am certain many will be saying. Well because it is a robust platform to share information about me, the real me that resides far from the superficial glimpses offered through all those consumer focussed portals. A platform to record the parts of me that I am most proud of, my values, my beliefs, my soul. Make of that what you will. But I do not define myself by my last job or my last night out or my last holiday.
I never forget that we exist as one community. Our actions and inaction have consequences, that we frequently never witness. So I treat others as I would wish to be treated.
We share the same atmosphere, land and water. We are guests to a planet that will exist years beyond us. Our legacy must be one of ensuring these natural resources are protected.
There is no inherent entitlement afforded to anyone. We are one species. Each of us may hold a unique part in the collectives evolution, but without worker bees, there is no colony.
There is always a different (cost or performance related) way to deliver something, whether it be a product or service. In my life I have discovered that unearthing these pathways is my passion.
I have been influenced little in my career by the flexibility of others towards honesty and it has at times been to my detriment. But I accept that, because it is better than compromising my beliefs.
Multiple minds are always better at completing a task than one. But if I have learnt one thing in my years, choosing your collaborators can be the hardest part.
